Telemann Viola Concerto
Watch on YouTube:
As any serious flute-player will know, Georg Phillip Telemann was a prolific composer for the flute.

Amongst many other styles and types of music, he wrote numerous sonatas, concertos and fantasias for the flute.

Here, I have taken not a flute piece, but his viola concerto and transcribed it for flute and piano.

Its a fast lively movement.

Included in the download is an easier version for the flute.

A musical life....

Georg Phillip Telemann (1681- 1767) was born in Germany.

By the age of 12 he had taught himself to play four instruments - and composed an opera.

His mother forbade him to pursue music as a career, wanting him to become a clergyman - but he continued to study it on his own, in secret.

A very prolific composer ...

He went off to study Law, but he couldn't stay away from music - and within a year he composed music for the two major churches in Leipzig and soon became a major church organist.

In 1714, he married the 16-year old daughter of the City Clerk. They had eight sons - and one daughter.

He was good friends with J.S Bach, and indeed became Godfather to C.P.E Bach, his famous composer son.
